I can remember a professor, back in the day, commenting on how I didn't draw breasts correctly. That I was flattening them out and wasn't capturing the roundness of the forms. It's taken me years of hard study, practice and first hand experience to learn how to properly draw breasts. They have a unique shape and weight, given their unusual structure compared to the rest of the body structure. I continue to be student and admirer of the form.

nuda veritas

Nude not naked becomes...nuda veritas. The distinction for me, between "nude" and "naked" was that "nude" is a natural state of being whereas "naked" implied a lack of clothing and an unnatural state of being. It's a matter of perspective and point of view. For me, the nude body is beautiful and interesting. The anatomy, the physiology, the social, historical and the art historical story of the human body is infinitely nuanced and intriguing.

I was interested, with this blog in particular, in exploring the nude human body as an essential form and not in the cultural implications of the "naked" figure. Though, I guess it's hard to get away from the mainstream ideas and in a way I do draw focus to the issue by way of the title. I could have just called it something else and not made an issue of nude/naked. In a way, the title is a sign or designation that beyond this point those issues are not the most relevant. I guess that's what the blogger warning sign is about too.

I think the whole issue is really cheesy and perhaps I've been hanging out with too many conservative types who have shifted my perspective in the wrong direction. The next blog rename will have nothing to do with nudity or nakedness.

The spikes in her hair remind me of some sort of crown and her shoulders remind of mutton leg puffed shoulders, like on a fancy victorian dress so the name sort of fits. I never actually went to prom, but this is what I'd hope my prom queen would look like.

This and the last drawings are a little bit older, maybe from a year or so back. There's more of a cartoony feel to the overall stylization of the figure. The proportions are not as elongated as I tend to do now. I think that has a lot to do with my focus presently on fashion and fashion proportions.

I love the overall shape of this figure and the anatomical segmentation. In particular, I like how her right hip juts out.

The detail from yesterday's post is from the middle knee area of "more than hipness." It's a great little passage, because that line / shape works as the part of the bottom of the one knee and then part of the back of the other leg in one transition. In detail it looks very ambiguous as to positive / negative space, but in the context of the rest of the drawing it really captures the shape and anatomy of the two areas in an elegant way that complements the in / out anatomical rhythm between the knee and back of the knee area.
